Fill Your Buns: Best Burgers in Leeds

We're spoilt for choice when it comes to burgers in Leeds, from the long-loved beef burger to the mighty chicken burger, and plenty of vegan burgers too.

Whilst there are plenty of burger chains in the city from the big players to the smaller ones like Almost Famous with just four locations (their new 2020stk burger sound unreal and I need to try it ASAP!), I want to focus on our divine street food burger heroes.

This means that you'll find these burgers in pop-up kitchens around the city, usually in a venue with plenty of drink options to enjoy alongside your tasty treat.

If you try any of these and love them, please let me know! Get in touch on instagram @leedsfoodtours or share your experience in Leeds Feeds Facebook group.

Slap & Pickle

Hands down the best burger I've eaten. You'll find Slap & Pickle in Assembly Underground, where you can enjoy burgers like the Personal Cheese-Us, the Baconator, the Triple Threat, and the Double Double Trouble.

Their Whole Nine Yards burger offers you two 40-day dry-aged Yorkshire beef smash patties loaded with American cheese, smoked bacon, onion rings, and jalapeno and roquito chillies; dressed with shredded lettuce, pickles, S&P burger sauce, hot sauce and Sriracha mayo, served on a toasted brioche bun.

Importantly, they use local, ethical meat in their burgers, and they have an extensive vegan menu too, which is honestly just as good as their meaty options!

Their loaded fries are unbeatable too.

Patty Smith's

Originally a temporary pop up at Belgrave, but now a permanent fixture! Choose from the award winning Dirty Burger, the Colonel Patty chicken burger (my top pick) or from their vegan menu which includes the Hot BSTRD and the Leafeater (my other top pick).

Their meaty burgers use meat from Yorkshire which is always free range/outdoor reared, and their beef is from grass fed native cattle breeds. They use locally sourced vegetables and herbs too.

The best bit? You can enjoy your burger on their newly refurbished roof terrace on a nice day!

Patty Smith's is a stop on the Leeds Street Food Tour, so if you'd like to try a small portion of their burgers alongside a whole host of other scrumptious street food dishes then book yourself a place below.

Jah Jyot

Jah Jyot are another Assembly Underground favourite, but they've recently opened a second venue within Northern Monk Refectory and owner/chef Ranie is getting incredibly creative with the menu (I'll be heading there on Sunday for an Indian roast dinner!).

Their vegan burgers include a Pakora Patty, Vada Vav and Cheesy Pav burgers, but it's their Beast from the East Burger that really gets me going... curry, cheese pakora ball, okra fries and a beef patty. It's unreal.

Knave's Kitchen

Knave's Kitchen serve up vegan junk food from their kitchen in Oporto on Call Lane, and they create tasty meat alternatives using seitan, which creates that amazing tear-able texture of meat using a plant-based ingredient.

Their Pineapple Express burger gives you Knave's Original Recipe 'Chicken', hash brown, cheese slice, spicy pineapple salsa, ranch sauce, lettuce and fries.

Cantina

Another vegan one for you, from Leeds' original all-vegan eatery situated in the Old Red Bus Station.

As the name suggests, the venue was historically a bus station, serving as the main hub between Manchester and Leeds from 1963. After standing derelict for twenty years, it was renovated by Champion Up North and is now a multi-purpose venue dedicated to arts and music.

The have a good range of burgers on their menu such as the BBQ Blue (battered seitan patty with BBQ sauce, tofu baecon, blue cheeze, lettuce and slaw), El Paso (vegan beef patty topped with spicy mushroom chilli, cheeze, bettered jalapeños, onion rings, lettuce and slaw and a Fauxfish Butty.

Cantina is a stop on the Leeds Vegan Food Tour, so if you'd like to try some of their indulgent loaded fries or maybe some deep fried oreos then click below to find out more.
