New Openings in Leeds in May

Leeds' food scene is buzzing with exciting new openings! We've seen several fantastic new openings and highly anticipated arrivals recently. Rumor has it that Three's a Crowd is making a comeback, potentially opening in the former Angelica's spot. Uyare, from the team behind Tharavadu, has already opened its doors as the new rooftop restaurant in Victoria Gate.

You've probably seen Azotea all over Instagram, thanks to their viral tableside guacamole. Plus, we've just heard the exciting news that the popular London chain, Dishoom, will soon be taking over the old Flannels store.

After some recent closures, it's fantastic to see so many vibrant new additions to the city. This means more incredible places for us to try and share with you!

Keep reading for all the details on these new openings that have really caught our eye.

Fuji Hiro is returning to Leeds!

Great news for Leeds foodies! The much-loved Fuji Hiro is set to reopen this summer under new management. Originally a city staple since 1997, Fuji Hiro was many people's go-to for authentic Japanese cuisine, making their sudden closure in January quite a shock.

Thankfully, it's coming back! Known for having the best Katsu pork around, the new owner plans to refocus the menu on its popular core dishes: katsu, ramen, and noodles. Fuji Hiro will reopen in the Merrion Centre this June, featuring a refit to increase seating capacity and better handle busy periods. We're so incredibly excited for its return!

Uyare by Tharavadu

One of Leeds’ new elegant rooftop bar and restaurants, Uyare is brought to us by a Leeds favourite, none other than Tharavadu. Uyare is an Keralan small plate venue, with a strong focus on signature cocktails and fine wine. It feels like Tharavadu have taken a step to create a contemporary spin on what they’ve been doing, in an elegant venue above Victoria Gate in Leeds, offering rooftop views across the city.

We imagine this will be a popular place to visit after we’ve seen the closure of similar venues rooftop spots - making it a great spot to grab a civilised drink with friends, or the perfect date night!

Brew + Bao, Chapel Allerton

Our well loved friends Brew York and Yuzu have joined forces to bring Chapel Allerton some of the best bao’s around!

Here you’ll find quality craft beer meeting bold Asian food, some of our favourite combo’s ever! Their bao buns, loaded fries other street food are all incredibly tasty and worth the trip. They have a great outdoor seating spot making it THE in place for summer vibes!

Nono Wine Bar, Granary Wharf

The Leeds Food Tours team recently had a foodie get together and after an amazing visit to Fern’s Modern Sushi (review to come), we headed to Nono for a nightcap. Greeted with the friendliest staff, iPads that quiz you and give you wine options based on your preferences, it’s fair to say we were all super impressed!

Ellen and Georgia had a wonderful French crémant, whereas Lynda went for a dry white, we all very much enjoyed the visit, Georgia has since been back to try out their wine flights and loved the experience!
