Where to find the best sandwiches near Leeds
May 16, 2025
Leeds is constantly adding to its portfolio of incredible places for food lovers to unite, and its sandwich scene is no exception!
From classic fillings to creations inspired by overseas, the city offers a diverse range of options for the perfect lunch bite.
In this blog, we're focusing on two of the best sandwich shops we've tried recently. One is a spotlight on an exciting new city centre spot as well as one a short train ride out of the city.
We'll venture beyond the city centre to discover a hidden gem, including a spot in Saltaire, a World Heritage Site which is easily accessible by a short train 20 minute train ride from Leeds.

Silver's Sliced @ Village Store Saltaire
We thought this was a permanent residence, but looks like their last day is Sunday 8th June, so make sure to get yourself on the train, to the World Heritage Site that is Saltaire, ASAP, to try these deep filled sandwiches!
Saltaire is a wonderful village, around 20 minutes on the Skipton line out of Leeds. There you'll find the World Heritage Site, Salt's Mill, and so much history about a man named Titus Salt who once imposed strict rules for all those who lived and worked in Saltaire.
We tried the turkey pastrami (salsa verde, iceberg, onion, swiss cheese, aioli), salt beef (pickles, provolone, mustard) and the pesto boloney (pistachio pesto, mortadella, Napoli salami, tomato, lettuce). Our particular fave was the salt beef, which was a beautiful combo with all the right amounts of ingredients to balance each thing off, a particular fave was the pickles - such a good addition to this type of sandwich!

Pictured above, these sandwiches are BIG, flavoursome, and the fillings are sandwiched between two fluffy pieces of bread.
When they're no more in Saltaire, fear not, as you can also catch them at their permanent spot, Silver’s Deli in Bramley.
ONE TO WATCH:
Alfonso's Deli
A love child of Koben’s Smokehouse and Thiccc Sauce, Alfonso’s is a bodega deli, inspired by the streets of NYC and Miami, bringing fully loaded sandwiches to Leeds City Centre. Cubano sandwiches are where they started, but since opening, they now serve meatball sub’s, vodka chicken parms and many more flavour combos.

Thursday 22 May between 3-10 pm, they’re holding a collab with the newly opened Rinse Natural Wine bar (same owners as Bottle Chop in Headingley) - check out their Instagram for more info!
