Friends of Ham

Probably the best known cheese (and charcuterie) spot in the city centre! Friends of Ham has been going for over 10 years, serving high quality meat and cheese boards alongside small plates and sandwiches.

Choose a set cheese board, or create your own from their cheese list. Cheese lovers would also love Friends of Ham's grilled cheese sandwich!

Friends of Ham have a fantastic wine list, we've often stopped dropped in just for a drink, you need to try their orange wine selection, it also has one of the best selections of beer in Leeds as well.

We couldn't write about Friends of Ham without mentioning their Burnt Basque Cheesecake, you need to try it on your next visit!

The Cheesy Living Co.

If you are a cheese lover, a visit to The Cheesy Living Co. is a must. Situated in the beautiful Corn Exchange, and owned by Jake & Sophie, who started the business during lockdown.

All of their cheese comes from small, independent British farms and businesses. Either pick up some treats from their deli, or sit in for a cheese board or a sandwich.

They regularly hold fondue nights, have been known to do a fondue Sunday roast, and have recently opened up a second location in Oakwood, where they often do supper clubs, wine, beer and gin tastings that are accompanied by some of their lovely cheeses.

The Decanter

The Decanter is an independent wine bar on Park Row, and it's a fabulously cosy spot with an impressive and varied wine list.

They also do a rather wonderful cheese board, where you're able to choose your cheeses, meats and accompaniments, or go all out on a huge sharing board designed for four or more people.

We love their 'Wine Down Wednesday's': where you buy a bottle of wine and get a free meat and cheese board worth £16. We've been quite a few times for the deal, you get a full-size board and are able to choose its contents, which is fantastic value for money.

For Cheese Shopping: Whitaker's

Sometimes, all that you want is a cheeseboard at home in your PJs, it's fine, we totally get it! If this is the case, we recommend you head to Whitaker's in Kirkgate Market, which has a huge selection of cheeses to buy.

Ellen (Leeds Food Tours Owner) buys all her cheeses from here, as they have a huge selection of cheeses, including lots of unusual ones, and the staff are always happy to recommend something based on your tastes.

Bonus, it's really good value for money there (and you can pick up some freshly squeezed orange juice to go with your breakfast the next day).

North Leeds Spotlight

Bottle Chop

Bottle Chop is well worth a trip up to Headingley, especially between Tuesday-Thursday for their Early Bird offer; a free glass of wine with a three-item cheeseboard.

They're proud servers of what they call 'Natty wine' (Natural wine to you and me), which don't contain additives and preservatives and keep the wine fresher for longer, we heard on the grapevine that natural wines don't give you as bad of a hangover, as they say it's the preservatives added that are the issue (count us in then!)
