To celebrate International Sushi Day, we're sharing some of the best restaurants for Sushi and Japanese in Leeds City Centre.

Fun Fact: Sushi is Ellen's (Leeds Food Tour founder and owner) favourite food! So we've got some fantastic recommendations from a pro-sushi lover!

Fuji Hiro

Fuji Hiro is a Leeds staple, speaking to family and friends, they've been well known all over West Yorkshire for 'the best Katsu curry out there' (we can attest to this!). Now when it comes to their sushi offering, you'll have to catch them when they're serving as its not always on their menu, however, Leeds Food Tours owner Ellen has managed to go a few times for their sushi and said "this could be the best sushi in Leeds" after visiting with food blogger Leeds Indulgence, where she tried the Bara-Chirashi Donburi which is a bowl of sushi rice topped with 10 types of raw fish.

Blue Sakura

Anyone who knows Ellen, will know this is one of her fave places to visit in Leeds. Unlimited sushi and Japanese food, what more can you ask for!? The concept of Blue Sakura is great; once you're sat down, a drinks order is taken, you're then presented with an iPad where you order your dishes, which arrive to your table as and when they're ready. Great for those of you who want to try new dishes, as they come on smaller plates, meaning you can try a bit of everything.

Senbon Sakura

Located near the Hospital district, Senbon Sakura (who are partnered with known and loved Bento) are a cafe/Japanese kitchen serving Bento boxes, create your own boxes, or set sushi boxes. It's extremely well priced and is a great casual spot to go with friends.

House of Fu

Not quite sushi but we couldn't leave House of Fu out! Now this is some of the best ramen we've tried, spicy, rich broth and flavoursome meats. We've tried both the pork and chicken here and have to say we preferred the pork! Make sure to try the crispy cauliflower to start.

Little Tokyo

It's a ‘Japanese restaurant with Yorkshire roots’, Little Tokyo, We have often visited for their two-course lunch menu, which is on Monday-Friday betweem 12-4pm. Their sushi is exceptional, but that doesn't stop us ordering their many other dishes including their vegetable gyoza, made with Japanese mushrooms, so delicious!

Juici Sushi

A hidden gem of Leeds, known and loved best by Leeds' Wellington Street office go-ers, Juici Sushi is nestled below ground level on Britania Street, serving some of the freshest sushi in town. Dependent on your work lunch budget, for us this was definitely a treat, you can indulge in a variety of Japanese dishes, varying from soups, bao buns, rice and noodle dishes, to fresh sushi. On our last visit we got Wakame Salad (seaweed salad, a MUST order!) and a salmon and avocado uramaki roll. Super delicious and filling, it's a busy spot so be prepared to wait a little while.

North Leeds Loves

Ichi Sushi

Featured as one of the stops on our North Leeds Food Festival food tour in May (watch our Reel here), Ichi Sushi has four locations in Chapel Allerton, Rawdon, Hunslet and Harrogate. They're known for their vibrant platters, boasting both fish and vegetable sushi. It's perfect on a hot day when you need something refreshing, who needs an ice cream in hot weather when you've got sushi!?

Tada

New guys on the block, Tada, is a ramen, yakitori and sushi bar in the heart of Headingley. They're most known for their Bento Boxes that feature a variety of sushi, gyozas and everyone's fave: edamame beans. It's slightly pricey for a non-city centre based establishment, however the quality of the fish does reflect that. We've also heard really great things about their ramen, but are yet to try it ourselves, stay tuned for our next visit!
