The Whitehall Leeds Review: A Must-Visit Restaurant for Date Night & Special Occasions
May 22, 2026
If you’re searching for a high-quality restaurant in Leeds city centre, The Whitehall is one that consistently comes up, and for good reason.

Having last visited four years ago, we were intrigued to see whether it would still live up to my memories. Spoiler: it absolutely does.
Please note this is a gifted experience, although all views are 100% our own.
Food at The Whitehall Leeds
The food here is exceptional, creative, well-executed, and generous in portion size. We went all in and ordered a mix of starters and mains, including:
Beef tartare, tuna tartare, buffalo cauliflower, beef cheek croquettes, lamb rump, venison wellington.

Every dish was packed with flavour and beautifully presented — genuinely faultless across the board. If you’re looking for fine dining in Leeds without feeling overly formal, this strikes the perfect balance.

Drinks and wine list
The drinks menu is just as strong. We started with blood orange Aperol cocktails, which were refreshing and a nice twist on a classic.

The wine list is particularly worth mentioning, we think Corney & Barrow supply them, as we recognised most of the wine list - they're a trusted name and a good indicator of blooming good wine. If you enjoy wine, you’re in safe hands here.
Service at The Whitehall
What really elevates The Whitehall Leeds is the service. From the moment we arrived, the team were warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Everything was timed perfectly, creating a relaxed yet polished dining experience.

It’s the kind of place where you feel looked after — without anything feeling forced or overly formal. Small touches is what made it for us; napkin neatly foldeed whilst we were away from the table, subtle, attentive service throughout and complimentary house-made chocolates at the end of the meal.
Allergy-friendly dining
A standout point, particularly if you have dietary requirements, is how seriously they take allergies. Ellen, owner of Leeds food tours has a tomato and avocado allergy; it was handled with real care, including adapting the venison wellington by serving it with an alternative gravy so I could still enjoy the dish. This level of attention makes The Whitehall a great option for allergy-friendly dining in Leeds.

Overall thoughts
The Whitehall isn’t a budget restaurant, but it offers excellent value for money considering the quality, portion sizes, and overall experience. They also offer set menus, which are well worth exploring if you’re planning a visit, as confirmed by our Instagram audience who were in touch after we posted, to let us know how good their lunch set menu is!
Whether you’re planning a date night in Leeds, a catch-up with friends, or a special family meal, The Whitehall delivers on every level. We couldn't recommend it any more!
