De Baga North Leeds: Award‑Winning Indian Restaurant
If you’re looking for an Indian restaurant in North Leeds that offers something a bit different, De Baga is well worth knowing about. They've got two restaurants, one in Chapel Allerton and one in Headingley. This modern Indian restaurant in Leeds is celebrated for its creative, yet traditional Goan menu and high‑quality ingredients. From casual dinners to special occasions, De Baga has become a firm favourite on the North Leeds food scene.
After recently visiting De Baga in both Chapel Allerton and Headingley, it’s easy to see why this modern Indian restaurant has built such a loyal following in North Leeds. From the moment we arrived, the experience stood out thanks to the incredibly warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable staff. By the end of the evening, conversations had flowed from menu recommendations to stories of Goa itself, enough to leave us seriously considering booking a trip!
Leeds Food Tours founder, Ellen, with Mr Leeds Food Tours at De BagaDe Baga offers a modern take on traditional Goan cuisine, with a menu that balances fish, vegetarian, and meat dishes. One thing that really stood out was how clearly dietary requirements are marked on the menu, making it much easier for guests to navigate their options when eating out - check out our blog post here for the best gluten-free restaurants in Leeds.
Across both visits, we tried a wide range of dishes, from a refreshing pomegranate mocktail inspired by Indian lemonade with black salt, to a generous meat sizzler featuring lamb chops, seekh kebab, and chicken tikka.

The chicken tikka was gorgeous, beautifully tender thanks to the yoghurt marinade, while the Fish Amritsari was lightly battered with delicate spices; it was served with an Indian‑style tartar sauce, which was an unexpected addition - it did work with the crispy fish, but we'd have preferred a refreshing mint sauce to dip into, totally personal preference though!
We had a few curries: a Malai Chicken Curry, a Hyderabadi Nali Ghosht with the most tender lamb shank, and a traditional mixed vegetable and paneer curry, alongside a rich-flavoured Lamb Xacuti.
To accompany the mains, the Peshwari and chilli cheese naans were lovely, with the sweet naan pairing surprisingly well with the savoury lamb dishes, a combo recommended by our server and one we’d definitely order again!
The dishes weren’t overly spicy, but instead beautifully spiced, aromatic, and well-balanced, leaving us satisfied without feeling weighed down.

We’d highly recommend De Baga to anyone looking for an Indian restaurant in North Leeds, whether you’re visiting midweek or planning a weekend meal; both locations offer a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere that works well for families, date nights, or group meals out!
