South Indian Tapas & Cocktails at Agni by Uyare: A Must‑Visit Leeds Spot
If you’re searching for South Indian food in Leeds, or are on the hunt for somewhere new and exciting to book for your next night out, Agni by Uyare needs to have a spot at the top of your list.
Located in Victoria Gate, this stylish restaurant brings together South Indian–inspired flavours, creative cocktails, and a tapas-style menu that’s perfect for sharing.
We first visited Uyare last summer, just after they opened, and instantly fell for their spicy margaritas on the terrace, the ideal after‑work treat on a sunny Leeds evening. So when we were invited back by PGHL to try their new concept, Agni by Uyare, we couldn’t wait to see how the menu had changed.
What is Agni by Uyare?
Agni is Uyare’s fresh take on South Indian tapas, offering a menu built around small plates, bold flavours, and dishes designed for sharing. It’s a great option if you love trying a bit of everything, or if you’re dining with a group that all have different tastes.

The venue itself is stunning: deep, moody lighting and a layout that works for date nights, celebrations, or group dining. It feels special without being over-the-top formal, and the service is warm and welcoming, much like our last visit!
South Indian–inspired cocktails in Leeds
One of the highlights of our visit was the cocktail menu. Agni is launching a new cocktail list this month, and both are absolutely worth ordering:
Coconut chilli cocktail - creamy, spicy, and perfectly balanced
Kiwi cocktail -fresh, bright, and ideal if you prefer something fruity

If you’re into cocktails with a twist, these are must‑tries! As we mentioned above, their spicy mango margarita is worth a try, too!
What we ate: Our favourite dishes
The food at Agni by Uyare is rich, yet well balanced. Not spicy yet beautifully spiced with lots of South Indian flavours. Here’s what stood out:
- Meen Chatti Curry - fresh fish in a fragrant coconut curry
- Kunjaadu Curry -lamb and potatoes in a silky cashew gravy
- Kerala Paratha - flaky, buttery layers that pair perfectly with every curry
- Kanava Kurumulagu Fry - battered fried squid, tossed with onions, peppers, curry leaves and garlic - this was incredible to try a different take on traditional 'calamari'
As we mentioned above, every single dish felt thoughtfully crafted, with spices that you could taste, rather than overwhelming your mouth.

We had seven dishes in total for two of us; we weren't sure if this would be enough, but it absolutely was!
Is Agni by Uyare worth the visit?
YES! Especially if you're a big fan of South Indian food, tapas-style, small plate dining, cocktails, sometimes different to usual offerings, and want a bit more of an elevated (literally, as it's above Victoria Gate) dining experience. We visited after work for cocktails on their rooftop, but would totally take friends and family here for group celebrations.

It’s a great addition to the Leeds food scene and one we’re excited to keep returning to.
